Fan Folly 2024 Part 4

 Fan Folly 2024 Part 4

After the debacle of the first attempt at a Fan I had to have a complete rethink.

Pile of Card

I usually have some Card tucked away for making Templates. Unfortunately I was completely out so I was chuffed when a parcel arrived that I could rip up into a Pile to look through.

Selected Pieces

I made a bit of a muck up when tearing the Box so was a bit fortunate to be able to Select Two Pieces that I could use.

Pencil Around

I am not having a good day. Every Bowl I tried was too small. Therefore I was forced to use one of the bigger ones what had Handles. This made it difficult to Pencil Around.

Cut to Shape

I Cut it to Shape. In the above photograph you can see that it is not a straight curve due to the Handles.

Match Up

I placed the one I had Cut out and Matched it Up on the other Card so I could Draw around and Cut.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 20

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 20

This was slightly trickier than I thought it would be but I got there in the end.

 Strap to be Backed

Above is a photograph of the Strap that I am going to back. This is the one that I have finished Knitting and Shaped at the end.

 Pin Template

I decided to use the Template on the Strap, as I knew it was the most accurate. I matched the Curved section then Pinned along the Bottom.

 Pin One Side

I began to Pin both Sides. When Strap was Stretched out there seemed to be an Excess of Material.  I decided to Pin one Side at a time. That way I could make sure, that I could check how much the Excess was.

 Tack Along

Once the Backing was fully Pinned I could begin to Sew into place. I merely used a Tacking Stitch as I was going to Sew it with a stronger Thread later.

Tack Both Sides

I Tacked all the way around Both Sides and along the Top. I am leaving the Bottom Untacked for now. This is because I want to check a few things first.

As you can see in the above photograph, the Template is not entirely Flat. This is due to the Excess Material. I am going to have to consider this factor when I move on to the next part.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 19

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 19

I finally feel like I am getting somewhere.

Measure Bag

I Measured the Bag against the Material. I found that if instead of Folding directly in half I manoeuvred it I would have Excess left over.

 Measure Template

I placed the Template against the Excess. I measured and cut the Material.

Making Hems

I had to make a Hem. This was far more difficult than usual. The reason for this is because the Excess had a thick Hem already. I really struggled to make the Curved part. I foresee more problems when I use it for Backing.

Hem Part Way

This Backing was only Hemmed Part Way as I am not sure on the length needed. I will only know that once the Backing is Sewn in place.

As well as finishing this part I am extremely happy because I have found my missing pins. That is going to make life easier for the next part.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 16

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 16

Why are there so many blogs on this project you might ask? The answer is very simple. It is because I keep making mistakes! This blog is no different.

Draw Around Template

Now I have my Template I can draw around it to make the others albeit they will be slightly longer.

Hem Clanger

Oh for heaven’s sake I have dropped another Clanger. This is kids play stuff! When I drew my around my Template I did it right from the edge rather than allowing for a Hem.

Before I start my Second Template I Folded the Material over and give enough room to make a Hem. I wrote it on to make sure that I didn’t forget.

Match Hems

I Matched the Hems on the Second piece of Material and Pinned the Hem. I then Sewed across.

There wasn’t much I could do with the First piece as I had already Trimmed it. Therefore I did the Smallest Hem I could get away with.

3 Different Hems

One Templet 3 Different Hems. Not a good start. I will need a fourth one but I will have to find some more Material for that. Also as I have not finished Knitting the Strap I do not know yet how long it will need to be.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 15

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 15

I have had fun (not) trying to sort out the photographs for this blog as taken quite a few in one go.

Pin Strap

I Pinned Strap to Material again.

Trim Strap

I now Trimmed the Material around the Strap. I make sure that I have left enough room for a Hem.

Pin Template

Before I go any further I am going to use what I have cut out as a Template. I placed and Pinned the Material on top of the Offcut and then Cut out. I have put aside for later.

Pin Middle

I take the Template and I Pin from the Curve to roughly the Middle of the Material.

Blue Hem

I now Hem what I have Pinned. I am using Blue Thread for this. Normally I would match the Thread to the Material. However the is not going to be seen so going to use something easily spotted and use up some spare Thread I have left over.

Pin Beginning

Now I have the Middle Sewn I am now Pinning the Beginning of the Strap and Folding over. I need to match the Ends to make this work.

Mark End

At the Folded End I take a Pencil and Mark it. Again I have to remember it will need Hemming.

All Hemmed

This Template is now fully Hemmed. I will now be able to use it for more accurate copies.

Footy Fun 2022 Part 3

 Footy Fun 2022 Part 3

The paint has dried and I can move on to the next part.

All Change

Looking at the above photograph I believe I made a mistake in a previous blog. I had used Fabric Glue just not for the Paper Covering.

Red Top

I Measured, Cut, and Glued a piece of Red Felt to both the Top and the Bottom of the Box.

Trimming Time

After the Red had dried I trimmed off any Excess White Felt. I think this is when I corrected the White Overlap on the Front of the Box. This recent illness has fogged my brain up.

 Template Time

Remember the small Scraps of Felt I had Ironed at the beginning of the project. I used these to make the Letters that I needed.

This was far more difficult than I anticipated. For some reason I couldn’t get the Letter N right. I ended up doing several before I was happy and could move on to the other Letters that I needed.

N.F.F.C

Eventually I managed to get all my Letters Cut Out. Next I had to place them. This was a little nerve wracking as if they were not spot on they would stick out like a sore Thumb.

Once placed I Glued the Backs and gently lowered them into position. I think since they were all drawn by eye rather than being measured I did rather well.

So there you have it one Covered Nottingham Forest Football Club Box for the use of.

Time to throw in the T-owl 2022 Part 4

Time to throw in the T-owl 2022 Part 4

The reason that I did not fill in all the Feather details is in two parts. First I only want a Template at present. Second I want to cut out some Card and add Colour to the Owl.

Heavy Pencil

Using a Pencil I went over the Outline of the Owl. The idea was to imprint the Template onto the Inside so I could use that for the Inner Drawing.

Black Marker

To my Horror I found the Imprint had not come through even after several tries. I thought perhaps using a Black Marker would work.

No it didn’t. Therefore my whole idea has been thrown out. I am going to have to have a complete rethink.

One Eye

I had spent so much time trying to get the Template to come through I now was running out of time. My friend would be here to pick me up in the morning and it was now coming up to midnight.

I therefore decided to cut my losses. Instead of doing the Card Feathers I was going to have to Draw them on. This meant that the Card would be quite bland to my mind. I hit upon the idea of adding a Googly Eye

UB40

This sparked a spot of inspiration. I added an Inner Sheet of Green Paper and glued it down. I quickly wrote a message on to the Paper. You are 40 Today. I filled in all the Letter O’s with the Black Marker. This would form the base.

Eye-Eye

I then selected various sizes and added 3 Googly Eyes. I added my personal message on the opposite page.

My friend arrived and I gave her the Card and she loved it. I then explained what it should have been along with the Rough Sketches,

She quite understood. It goes to show that True Friends will accept stuff that isn’t perfect because they recognise the effort that it put in. That is the Real Birthday Gift!

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 7

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 7

Then next couple of Blogs are continuing with the Ivy

Trimming Ivy

Before I can do anything I need to Trim the Ivy. I measure them against the Template.

Ivy Main Stalk

Now I can start Embroidering. I decided to start with the Ivy’s Main Stalk

Back Stitch

The Stitch that I am using is the Back Stitch. This means that I am going to have to keep the Back very tidy and keep Cutting the Ends of the Thread off.

Start Bottom Ivy

Speaking of the Thread I am using a Green 0266 Anchor that I have in my collection. I start Sewing from the Bottom of the Main Stalk. Then I Sew Upwards then Corner Downwards.

Double Bottom

I repeat the process with the other side.

Set of Ivy

I continue through the Leaves until I have all the Ivy Veins done. The Upper parts were Embroidered using the same technique but slopping upwards.

Too Thick

I start to Embroider the Contrasting Yellow. This is Anchor 0293. As soon as I have done half a dozen Stitches I know that this isn’t going to work. Time for a think.
