A Twist In The Tail 2025 Part 8

A Twist In The Tail 2025 Part 8

Now I have finished the Tail and broken the back of the project I am quite looking forward to the next Section.

Fin Begins

Here we have yet another Yarn. The Tail Bag had been reasonably muted colour wise. I am going to go all out for the Fin.

Red Start

I had been toying with the idea of picking up the Stitches of the Bag and carrying on. However I have decided against it as it is already so Heavy. Consequently I have Cast on 120 Stitches.

If my memory serves me the Tail was 180 Stitches in total. That makes it 90 each side. These extra Stitches should help create a wave look. This should be accentuated by using a Plain Knit Stitch.

Knit Front and Back

I thought a Bright Yellow would go nice next to the Red. I have Knitted a two Rows. I am Increasing with a Forward and Back at each end.of this next Row.

Which Way

Hell. I had finished the Yellow and started back with the Red when the Stiches came off. I don’t normally just use a Plain only Stitch so not sure which way to Pick them up.

Sneaky Pearl

Lots of rude naughty words!. Now I am in better light I can see that I have Picked up wrongly. A couple of Pearl Stitches have Sneakily snuck into the mix. I need to try and sort this before continuing.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 1

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 1

I have had a break from Knitting for a good while. Now I am getting back into it and I know Exactly what I want to make.

Wool and Needle Selection

I want to make a Bag to match my Autumn Cape. This is partly due to the numerous Balls of left over Wool. It was Knit Nottingham’s 12th Anniversary so I bundled up what I had and went to get advice.

3.25mm Circular Needle

Eleanor was her fabulous self. Since the Bag would have to hold weight I wanted to discuss what size Needle I needed. We settled on my 3.25mm Circular Needle.

This is so when I Knitted and Joined I would only have to do a Plain Stitch but the Resulting Pattern would be Stocking Stitch.

Split Wool

Trying to decide how many Stitches to Cast on was tricky. I thought I would put an even number on to make life easier. I cannot remember exactly but I think it was about 200.

The way I Knit it doesn’t make much difference because I can guarantee that I will end up either Dropping a Stitch or Making New ones. Probably both knowing me.

Piles of Split Wool

Disaster! As soon as I had got to the End of the first Row I found the Wool had Split. I decided not to continue until I got home. I got back and unpicked everything.

I decided to be on the safe side and completely Unravel the Ball of Wool. It is a good job I did. I found that the Wool was Split in several places.

Joining the Round

Eventually I found a Small Ball that was long enough to Cast on and Knit the first Row. I could now begin to Join and Knit in the Round.

Face Mask 2020 Part 2

I now have a Plain Mask. However I think it is a bit boring so I am going to Embellish it.

Nose and Edge Pins

I have had an inspiration about what Design to put on the Mask but first I need some dimensions. I fold the Mask in Half and mark the Centre with a Pin. I then put the Mask to my nose and bend it towards my ear. I then mark both Sides with a Pin.

Jawline Pins

I next open the Mask up again and carefully Tie it around my face. I Pin the Rough Shape of my Jawline.

Rough Drawing

With a Pencil I Draw Roughly the Outline of the Image I want on my Mask.

White Felt

I cut out and Pin a piece of White Felt to the Mask. I then Sew it in place using a Backstitch.

Backstitch Teeth

Once the Felt is Sewn I can begin to create the Detail. Using ordinary Black Thread I Outline the Shape of Teeth in a Mouth. This is again using Backstitch.

Infill Teeth

I Sew all the Upper Teeth in the Mouth. I then begin to do the same on the Bottom. However this time I have to Infill the Gaps in-between the Teeth.

Highlight Teeth

As I am going along I notice that in comparison to the Gaps the Outlines of the Teeth are rather insipid. I therefore go over them again to Highlight them.

Red Felt Layer

I cut out small sections of Red Felt and Pin them in place. Once I have the complete Outline I Backstitch around the Inner and Outer Edges with Red Thread.

Jane the Joker

The above photograph shows the finished Mask. I just couldn’t resist adding a bit of Green to my Hair. Voila Jane as the Joker. Hope it brings a smile to others.

Face Mask 2020

Face Mask 2020

In these unusual times we are having to be more safety conscious. Most people are wearing some kind of Face Covering when they have to go out. I have been using a Wool Scarf but with the weather heating up I need to find something cooler.

Materials

First of all I need some materials. I have some Plain Canvas Material and some Ties that are from an old Canvas Wardrobe.

Tie Material

I am adding Ties to the Mask as unfortunately I do not have any thin Elastic. I need 4 Ties. One Tie at the Top and Bottom of Each Side.

Pre Tie Material

If you need to make Ties from scratch the above photograph shows how the Tie is formed. The Length is approximately Ear to Ear.

Sew Tie

I only have 3 ready-made Ties so I am having to Sew the 4th. I have trimmed the other Ties to the same Length and I am making this one the same Length

Hem Tie End

Next I have to Hem the Ends. Using the Stitching as a guide I Hem 2 Tie Ends Facing and 2 Hem Ends the Opposite way around. Note that I have only Hemmed 4 Ends and not 8.

5 and a Half Inches

The Width of the Canvas is 5 and a Half Inches. This is to give a generous amount to Hem.

19 and a Half Inches

The Length of the Canvas is 19 and a Half Inches. This is way more than I need but I have a small Head so others might need more. Also although I am lucky enough to have one side already Hemmed I will have to Sew the other side.

Pin Hems

I Pin the Hems ready for Sewing. In the above photograph you can see that I have not Pinned right to the end. This is because before Sewing I want to check how much Material I actually need.

In order to avoid making the mistake I did make sure you turn the Material the other way around before measuring it against your Face. Having a Pin nearly go up your nose is not fun!

Pin Ties

I had to cut off a couple of Inches prior to Sewing the Hems. I am now able to add the Ties. First of all I Pin them in Place. I make a few holding Stitches to secure them.

I then remove the Pins and Fold the Hem over and Sew. This is why I did not need to Hem the other Ends of the Ties. I repeat this on the other End of the Mask.

Finished Plain Mask

Here we have one Finished Plain Face Mask. If I decide that it is a little too Large all I have to do is Fold the Tie Hem over and Sew to shorten it – Doing this on both sides is preferable.

Mademoiselle Marionette 2018 Part 16

Mademoiselle Marionette 2018 Part 16

Now the Marionette is semi decent I can carry on making some out the outerwear.

Marionette Measurements

Before I start making more clothes I thought it would be a good idea to take some measurements. That way I would have a rough idea of the Dolls size if I want to make extra clothes at a later date.

Striped and Plain

I am carrying on with the French Theme and by chance a friend gave me some material that couldn’t be better. It was a lovely piece of Blue and White Striped Material.

However it is quite a small piece and frays easily. I thought the best thing to do was to give it a quick Hem and then add some Ribbon at a later date.

As there is only enough material for the Front the Back will have to be different. Therefore I decided to start the other side off with a simple Plain piece of Hemmed material.

Studs Added

All clothes need to be detachable so I decided to use Press Studs again. I attached some Blue Binding material around the Plain material then made some Straps and sewed them onto the Front Piece. This gave me something to sew the Studs on to.

Thick Stripes

Obviously I need to be able to attach and detach the Top at the Sides as well. Therefore I added some roughly measured Blue Binding to the Back.

This enables me not only to attach fastenings to it but also it mimics the Front piece albeit with much thicker Stripes.

I had to keep going from one part of the Top to the other for measuring so I decided the best thing for me to do would be to Blog the two sides in tandem.

Winter Warmers for the Sally Army.

Last year I decided to make items of knitwear for The Canaan Trust a Christian Charity for Local Homeless Men. This year I am knitting for the Ladies.

A suggestion was made that I try asking if the Salvation Army would be interested in said items. So I went along to their weekly Friday Coffee Morning and asked.

They said they would be delighted to have some items. They do have both a table top and a local shop but these items are being taken when they go visiting the elderly and infirm in their homes.

Therefore last Friday (5th Feb 2016) I took in the items I had knitted so far including one I finished at the Coffee Morning.

Ladies Scarves

The above scarves were knitted in a variety of stitches which accounts for the undulating shape. The stitches used were Plain, Purl, Moss and Rib.

Large Blankets for Back or Legs

The Blankets pictured were all knitted in Garter Stitch (Plain)

Foot Blanket

And finally last but not least a…

Hand Blanket

The above mini blanket was the one I finished on site with barely 10 minutes to spare. I am still knitting but at a less hectic pace. I have a huge craft project to do which is going to take a great deal of concentration and work. However I am sure I will find something that will whet your appetite long before that is ready : )
