More Face Masks 2020 Part 2 – Its Jaw dropping.

In the last blog I had made a peculiar Shaped Face Mask. So what was I going to do with it?

Rough Drawing

First I drew a Rough Drawing on the Mask

Grey Felt

Next I selected some Grey Felt and Pinned it in Half.

Cut and Curve

I carefully cut a Curve at the Top and Bottom of the Felt. I then snipped a small Triangle out of the Centre then opened it up. I Trimmed the Centre and Edges until I had the shape outlined in the Rough Drawing.

Circular Red

 

I haven’t Sewn the Grey Felt as yet as I want to slip material underneath it. I started adding Red Felt to the Centre. I Sewed it on in a Circular Pattern. This was to give the impression of a Tube or in this case a Throat .

Add Teeth

I took three strips of White Felt and cut a zig-zag Pattern into them forming irregular shaped Triangular Teeth. I slipped these strips under the Grey Felt and Sewed in place.

Fins and Eyes

Once the Triangles were Sewn I then Sewed around all the Grey. I then added a slightly Curved Triangle to the Top forming a Fin. I added a Fin either side of what you probably now recognise as a Shark. I also Embroidered the Sharks Eyes.

Gills and White

After Embroidering the Black Eyes I added a touch of White as when Sharks attack their Eyes roll back. In addition to this I Sewed on some Gills either side.

Next I Sewed White Felt underneath the Grey Felt. This gave the characteristic colouring of the Great White Shark.

Press Stud

I hadn’t quite finished with my Shark. I Sewed a Press Stud In the Sharks Mouth.

Oxygen Tank

 

This was definitely the fiddliest and time consuming part of the Mask. I had to do some research to find the Iconic Oxygen Tank.

I cut out the Shape of the Tank and it took quite a few hours of Embroidery to give the semblance of the Logo. Due to the small size I had to omit the writing.

Be Afraid

Here I am wearing the Jaw (or should I say Jaws) dropping Mask. I felt it was well worth the effort I put into it.

Face Mask 2020 Part 2

I now have a Plain Mask. However I think it is a bit boring so I am going to Embellish it.

Nose and Edge Pins

I have had an inspiration about what Design to put on the Mask but first I need some dimensions. I fold the Mask in Half and mark the Centre with a Pin. I then put the Mask to my nose and bend it towards my ear. I then mark both Sides with a Pin.

Jawline Pins

I next open the Mask up again and carefully Tie it around my face. I Pin the Rough Shape of my Jawline.

Rough Drawing

With a Pencil I Draw Roughly the Outline of the Image I want on my Mask.

White Felt

I cut out and Pin a piece of White Felt to the Mask. I then Sew it in place using a Backstitch.

Backstitch Teeth

Once the Felt is Sewn I can begin to create the Detail. Using ordinary Black Thread I Outline the Shape of Teeth in a Mouth. This is again using Backstitch.

Infill Teeth

I Sew all the Upper Teeth in the Mouth. I then begin to do the same on the Bottom. However this time I have to Infill the Gaps in-between the Teeth.

Highlight Teeth

As I am going along I notice that in comparison to the Gaps the Outlines of the Teeth are rather insipid. I therefore go over them again to Highlight them.

Red Felt Layer

I cut out small sections of Red Felt and Pin them in place. Once I have the complete Outline I Backstitch around the Inner and Outer Edges with Red Thread.

Jane the Joker

The above photograph shows the finished Mask. I just couldn’t resist adding a bit of Green to my Hair. Voila Jane as the Joker. Hope it brings a smile to others.

I am continuing making the Rabbit’s Face

Sew Rabbit Face

Now everything is Hemmed I can Sew the White part on completely.

Rough Nose

I drew and cut out a Nose for the Rabbit. I checked the Rough Nose for size and then proceeded to Hem it. I Sewed the Right Hand side of the Nose in place

Nostrils Sewn

 

I then cut out some Nostrils. I stuck these on to the Nose. I also Stitched around them. I am a bit concerned that these might Fray.

Once this was done I Stuffed the Rabbit’s Nose and then continued to Sew the rest of the way around.

Sew Mouth Shape

Now I had the Nose in place I could make the Shape of the Mouth. I did this by using Black Thread and Backstitch. Looking at it now I probably could have done with making it a bit Wider.

Sew Teeth

I took some White material and Hemmed it. I then Folded it Half and proceeded to Blanket Stitch it together. After this was done I Back Stitched some Black Thread Vertically along the Middle.

Attach Teeth

The problem with the Teeth is they were Rectangle at the Top and the Mouth was Curved. Therefore I had to Fold the Teeth at the Top and Stitch them together prior to adding to the Face.
