Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 63

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 63

Continuing with the Bag for the Pocket.

Nearly Cut

Whoops! I am trimming the Excess off and Nearly Cut the Hem. I hope it does not Fray.

Green Blanket Stitch

I have now Blanket Stitched the two Side Edges of the Green Material. I hope it fits, as the Wool is a bit Stretchy.

Inside Pocket

As I anticipated, the Green Bag was a little Long so I have Folded the Top over. Now it fits nicely.

Leaf Layout

I am trying to work out what order to Layout the Leaves. It has taken me about half an hour to do this. I have Pinned together for later. Now I need a break.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 61

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 61

I have now finished the Ears. I decided against any further decoration as I wanted to move on.

Gone Sideways

Nope you are not looking at the above photograph wrong. This is what really happened. This is a far more complicated process than I realised. First, I have to remove the Green Inner Bag. Then I Flip the Flap so not in the way.

Next, I have to put my hand inside the Bag. I have to take the Pocket on the outside with my other hand. I try to place it in position. Then I have to take a Needle with the Wool push through both the Bag Layer and that of the Pocket. Conclusion. I do not have enough hands.

This Time Pin

One of the major problems is that I cannot see what I am doing. I am either looking at where I am putting the Needle through or where I am holding the Pocket.

This Time I have Pinned the Pocket roughly in place so I can concentrate on what I am doing with the Needle.

Got it Straight

Got it Straight. Hmm. Well not exactly Straight as the Pocket is more Bowl shaped than Rectangle. That is due to the way I picked up the Stitches and how it has Stretched during Sewing. At least it is Vertical and not Sideways this time.

To give the Pocket plenty of Strength I Sewed it using a Backstitch. Then when I got to the Top, I turned and went over the Stitches I had already done.

Start Bright Red

With the Pocket now Sewn in place I can continue. My next step is to add Leaves. I have started with a Bright Red one. This shows up nicely against the Golden Yellow of the Pocket.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 39

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 39

With the Flap sorted, I now want to Strengthen Top of the Bag.

Green Strip

I found a small Green Strip of Material. It is roughly the right size and shape.

Strip Hemmed

I have Hemmed the Strip and Pinked the edges to stop Fraying.

Long Strip

The Strip is about an inch too Long. I decided this time to cut off the Excess. The thing to remember is when cutting across it also cuts the Hem Thread. I needed to resew the Hem ends.

Strip Secured

After Tacking the Strip in place, I went over it with Blanket Stitch.  The Top is far more Secure.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 36

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 36

I am moving on to Strengthening the Flap.

Flap

I have quite a large Flap to Strength. I am not sure if I have enough Material.

Green Material

I have found the Green Material and I measured it against the Flap. As I suspect when allowing for Hemming it may not be enough. I am going to have to divide into sections.

Green Pinked

I have Hemmed all the way around the Material. However, I find that it Frays quite Badly. I have had to find my Pinking Scissors to do the edge.

Needle Ends

Hm. I think that by turning the Material around that I now have too much. It is not easy the way the Wool keeps Stretching. I have decided to Sew using a Tacking Stitch. I am going to do this using a Needle from both Ends.

This way I can Judge how much Wool to Material there is and make adjustments accordingly. Otherwise, I might end up with a big Bunch at one end.

Top Attached

The Top is now fully Attached. It has a little bit of Bunching here and there but nothing I cannot manage.

Green Pleat

I have now Sewn the Top and both Sides with a Tacking Stitch. It has helped stop some of the rolling. However, there is definitely too much Material.

I am solving this by adding a couple of Pleats. I am not going to Sew these in place yet. Nor am I going to Sew across the Bottom.

Time to throw in the T-owl 2022 Part 3

Time to throw in the T-owl 2022 Part 3

Time to move on to the real thing. I apologise for the pure quality of the photographs.  I may have changed the order to make it easier to follow

Draw Circle

I had a hard time choosing what colour Card to use as my Friend dislikes certain colours. Naturally those were the colours I had in stock. Finally I found some Green Card. I Drew a Circle using the Outside of the roll of Tape.

Draw Inner Circle

I used the Inside of the Tape to Draw the Inner Circle.

Rub Out Excess

I Rubbed out the Excess lines before I moved on. I am going to use the Eraser a great deal I think.

Adjust Face

Some photos didn’t come out at all so I have had to mess around with the order. I had drawn the Face but now I needed to Adjust it.

Tape Curve

To make the Wings I used the Tape as to make sure that I had the same kind of Curve. This is was easier said than done trying to place it in the right position.

Adjust Talons

I need to make better Talons. I decided the best way was to Draw seed like ones on the ends of the legs. Then I could add the Sharp parts.

Pencil Outline Complete

I have finally got the Pencil Outline that I want. I haven’t added all the Feathers for a reason. I will discuss this in the next blog.

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 5

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 5

Okay I think I have found a Solution.

Scrap Green

In order to get around this particular problem I am going to Cut the Ribbed Material into 2 pieces. I am then going to fill the middle with Scraps.

Once the Scraps are Dry I shall place the 2 good pieces of Ribbed Wool at Either End. Hopefully this should make the whole thing look like it is an uninterrupted flow.

Cover Back

Having finished with the Front I turn my attention to the Back. With the adjustments I have had to make I am going to have to add more Scraps. This will be to the Back and Inner Ring.

Front Completed

The Front has come out well. Unfortunately it isn’t just this part that will be seen when Hung.

Wind Tight

I have found some Green Wool to Wind Tight around the Ring. Not only does this help keep all the Straggly bits in place but also gives a nice Decoration

It has also given me an idea.

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 4

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 4

Now I getting to the Final part of this stage.

INITIAL GREEN

This is the Initial Green Layer before I start using the Material I had in mind for this Project.

SELECT WOOL

I am using Green Wool for the last part of the Layering. This came from an unfortunately washing accident. Do Not put Lamb’s Wool on a Hot wash. It doesn’t like it.

OVERLAPPED WOOL

I am using Sections of the Wool that has a Ribbed Pattern on it. Therefore I am giving it a good Stretch so it isn’t so Prominent. Also this helps the Material go around the Sides of the Ring

Like with the other Layers I am Overlapping the Sections only this time I am being more careful.

NOT ENOUGH

Typical! I am just short of the Ribbed Material that I am using. Never mind a good Crafter can usually find a Solution.

Time for another Cuppa and a Think!

Autumn Equinox Invocation 2019 Part 2

Autumn Equinox Invocation 2019 Part 2

Now that I had finished completing the Scales I could move on to the next item I need to make.

Ostrich Plume Drawn

The Goddess Maat was often depicted with a Feather. The Feather that she had was that of the Ostrich. Therefore I wanted to add an Ostrich Feather to my Ritual.

Since I do not exactly keep a stock of Ostrich Feathers handy I decided to draw one. The Feather depicted in Egyptian Murals is curved. I tried to capture this when I drew it on the Green Card. I used a Pencil to draw on the Card as I am not much of an artist.

Ostrich Plume Feathered

Once I had drawn the Feather and Cut it out I made small snips in the Card around the Plume and ruffled the edges. This was to give it a more realistic appearance.

The reason why I chose to use Green Card rather than an Ostrich Feather colour was simple. In ancient Egypt the Feather became associated with ‘Truth’. So when in court the Chief Priest (The Judge) and the other Priests drew the Ostrich Feather in Green on their tongues. This indicated that they were speaking the Truth.

Lolly Cut and Shaped

Now the Feather was completed I moved onto the next part. I took two Lolly Sticks. One of them I simply cut off the ends. The other Stick I trimmed to a point.

I have to confess that making the point was a real pain. The wood kept splintering and it took me a good half hour to get both sides even.

Sword

When I had my two pieces as I wanted them I bound them together with some Thread. The Sword was often used in Ancient Times as an emblem of Authority
