With the Flap sorted, I now want to Strengthen Top of the Bag.

Green Strip

 

I found a small Green Strip of Material. It is roughly the right size and shape.

Strip Hemmed

 

I have Hemmed the Strip and Pinked the edges to stop Fraying.

Long Strip

 

The Strip is about an inch too Long. I decided this time to cut off the Excess. The thing to remember is when cutting across it also cuts the Hem Thread. I needed to resew the Hem ends.

Strip Secured

 

After Tacking the Strip in place, I went over it with Blanket Stitch.  The Top is far more Secure.

I am continuing with the Second Strengthener.

Single Hem

 

I had been left with Excess Material. I could either Cut it or Fold it.

Hem Fold

 

With the amount of coughing I am doing, I felt it safer to Fold.  Actually, the other end of the Material had

Comparison

 

I have Sewed the Second Strengthener is place. In the above photograph, you can see the Comparison between the two.

Unpicked

 

I was not happy the way it looked so I unpicked it to redo. This time instead of the using the Tacking Stitch I used Blanket Stitch.

New Comparison

Though still not perfect, it is much better than before. I had thought about putting a Strip across to cover the gap. However, I decided against it and are going to leave it as a little pocket to keep tissues inside.

Now that I have the Mirror Image that I wanted I can continue.

Chain Gang

 

For the next part I needed small pieces of Chain. Unfortunately I didn’t have any so I took a broken Chain and cut it into bits. This took absolutely ages as after Cutting I had to prise off the little End sections so they were Equal length.

Tricky Stitching

 

It is a complete nightmare trying to add in a straight line something that wants to bend in all directions.

Nearly Time

 

I eventually managed to add all the bits of Chain so am ready for the part that I am going to have real fun with.

Getting Wired

 

What I need is some Copper Wire. I know Crafters have a tendency to hold on to things but I used this for a project over 20 years ago. I am using some old Cutters to Strip back the external casing and expose the Wire beneath.

Time for Tea

 

The Wire is actually a collection of Strands. I had to split the collection to get a single Strand. I then Threaded a Needle and came up through the Centre of the Inner Circle.

One Strand was going straight up. The other was to the 4 O’clock point or as I like to think of it. Time for Tea.

Happy New Year 2019

I thought that since it is the New Year I would start it with a blog on a different project. The Mademoiselle Marionette project is still ongoing (sorry Cayt) but it wasn’t the only Yuletide gift I was working on.

One Owl Bag

This was what started me off on my train of thought. My friend likes Owls but is not really a Handbag kind of person.

Remove the Strap

I didn’t want the Handbag only the Owl PVC material so first of all I removed the Strap

Remove the Zip

I do not need the insides so I removed the Zip to get better access

Dismantle the Bag

I slowly began to dismantle the Bag piece by piece in order to get the maximum amount of material. I could then lay it out flat ready for the next part.

Large Circle

First I cut out two large circles. I then proceeded to mark a serious of small circles.

Concentric Circles

Now I have two circles cut out and several interior circles like a target. I have created this pattern as I am not sure exactly sure how much room I would need for what I have in mind.

Finding the Centre

I find the Centre of the Circle and the middle of the Purple Strip

Purple Strip

Placing a spot of glue at the middle of the Circle I lay the Purple Strip down on the material. I slowly add more glue and gently spread the Strip across the Circle making sure there are no wrinkles

Blue Strip

I do the same with the Blue Strip forming a Cross in the Centre of the Circle.

Any idea what I am making yet?
