A Twist In The Tail 2025 Part 3

A Twist In The Tail 2025 Part 3

I hate this part of a project (after knitting) but it is a necessary evil.

Third Colour

I am continuing with the Striped effect. This time I am adding a Light Blue.

End of Blue

I have reached the End of the Blue Yarn. This completes all the Super Chunky of this type that I had. This Yarn and the Grey was from another previous project see below.

Tail Ends

This seemed a good time to start Tidying Tails. So I flipped it over so I could see them.

Getting Stuck

This was a complete and utter swine to do. The Needle kept getting Stuck. With Black on Black it was almost impossible to tell which was Tail Yarn and which was Stitches. I daren’t cut it in case I got the Stitches.

Needle Change

Something had to be done. I swapped the Needle I was using to a different one. I believe this is actually a Carpet or Rug Needle. It has a bigger Eye and the Curve made it much easier to manoeuvre the Yarn.

Nice and Neat

Finally I was finished. You cannot see it in the photograph but I have left the Tail from Casting on alone. I may need to use this later.

Mini Pudding Puzzle 2024 Part 3

Mini Pudding Puzzle 2024 Part 3

With all the White Hexagons Finished I could move on to the Pentagons.

Not Happy

I am really Not Happy with the way this Pentagon has bee cut out. No matter how I turn the Hexiform I cannot get a true match. I am going to have to see if I can try and Fix it during Sewing. I hope the others aren’t like this.

First Pentagon

With what I had to work with I think that this First Pentagon hasn’t turned out too badly. On with the rest.

Speckled Brown

The White is all finished so I can turn my hand to the Brown. Again I am Not Happy. At first glance when I was sorting these out I thought they went near the Top. I thought the Speckled Colour was supposed to be Icing Sugar.

However when I looked through the rest they are all like this. I termed this Speckled Brown - I have been watching a lot of Sherlock Holmes lately.

Add to the Brown

First port of call was to add the Hexiform. Since no thread has been provided I have to search my supplies for some Brown Thread.

Good Colour Match

I am lucky that I have quite a good collection of threads. I have found a Good Colour Match to the Brown Material.

Brown Hexagons

I have finished the Hexagons.

Brown Pentagons

I have Finished the Pentagons. They are not quite the right Shape in places. My fingers were beginning to get sore. I should have rested but that is me all over.

Bleeding Blooms Part 2

 Bleeding Blooms 2024 Part 2

What I hadn’t mentioned in the previous Blog is that this Project is Time Sensitive. A good friend was leaving the County and therefore I had a Deadline to meet. This being the case naturally something was bound to go wrong.

Colour Variety

I began to add a Variety of Colours in the Circular Blooms.

One Corner Done

One Corner Done and Time is going much faster than I would like. I need to press on with the other side. I am taking my Embroidery with me when I go places so I can keep Sewing. This includes Sewing whilst travelling by car which isn’t easy.

Missed

Lots of rude naughty words. I though I had finished all the Red and Orange Blooms but I have Missed some. I didn’t notice this until I started Trimming all the Tails off. Now I need to find these Colours again.

Stained

Okay so it is D -Day. I finished Sewing at 3.15 this morning then spent an hour Trimming off Tail Ends. All I have to do is Wash and Press the Cloth

I am having a Nervous Breakdown!. Whilst Ironing I have found in one Corner the Colour has Bled. I try various home remedies with my friend helping. I also call another friend for suggestions.

I Re-wash and Iron the Cloth hoping that it will be better. Unfortunately despite all our combined efforts the Stain is still visible. However I am out of Time and have to go. I can’t even wrap it because it is still Damp.

Double Take

Here is a photograph of the Finished Project above. I had  a Double Take when I initially saw it.  At first I thought there was a huge Stain. Then I realised that what you don’t see because of editing is that I am standing behind it holding it up. It is the Pattern on my Clothes that is showing through.

The real Stain is barely visible and hopefully will come out when washed again. The upshot is that I got it delivered on time and my friend loved it.

My hands still have the imprint of the Embroidery Ring in them so no Sewing for a while and absolutely no more Blooms Bleeding on Cloths!

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 49

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 49

It never rains but it pours.

Toggle Problem

Okay I have a problem. I did have extra Wooden Toggles and now I am short. I think that they must have dropped on the floor and been swallowed up by the Hoover.

I searched for any Toggles that I might have in my button collection. I have some but they are completely the wrong Colour. I know these are going to be on the Inside but even so, I like to try my best.

Marked Toggles

I am going to have to Colour some Toggles to try to match them better. The Toggles that I have are some that I have taken off an item. Unfortunately, they have become Marked. Therefore, I have selected ones that seem to be the worst to be used.

Coloured Toggles

I have Coloured the Toggles in with a Permanent Marker Pen. As you can see in the above photograph, they are now much darker. If they were to be on show, I would not have been happy with the overall result.

However since they are not it does not matter too much. The Thread will cover the light areas. The next problem to tackle is the fact that they are smaller than the others are. I have therefore decided that I will add an extra Loop. This should help spread the weight.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 43

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 43

Now it is time to tackle those Stitches Securing the Loops

Adding Leaf

Apart from Covering the Stitches that come through, I want to try to brighten up the Large Brown Area. I select a Red Leaf to start with.

Extra Security

I have to be careful how I add the Leaf. I want to give Extra Security to the Loop by Sewing across. However, I do not want to make it unusable.

Four Leaves

I have now added Four Leaves. I have tried to alternate the Colours.

Adding Detail

Next, it is time to Add more Detail so the Leaves are not stuck in the middle of nowhere.

Embellishments

In addition to making it prettier I am also trying to Secure any holes left where I Picked Up Stitches.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 35

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 35

Technically my Bag is now usable. However, I want to tidy it up.

Sort Leaves

Before I can do anything I need to Sort out my Leaves and see what Colours I have. I may need to make some more.

Pin Leaves

I start to Pin the Leaves in place ready for Sewing.

Inside Out

Some of the Leaves are quite hard to get to, especially the further down the Bag you go. For these I turn the Top of the Bag Inside Out. This makes it much easier.

Yellow Hole

I have found a Yellow Hole. By the looks of it is the result of a dropped Stitch, which I did not pick up correctly.

Hole gone

I Sew the Hole together. I then place a Leaf over it to hide the Mistake.

Yellow Problem

I have found another Yellow Problem.

Problem Fixed

Again, I Cover the Mistake with a Leaf. I try where possible to use different Coloured Leaves to help break up large blocks of Colour.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 31

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 31

This week I have Cottoned on to an Idea. Since I cannot find the Correct Colour Wool, I will try to match it up with Cotton Thread.

Secure Cotton

I attached the Leaf with the Wool Tail then I switched to Cotton. I decided because of the difference in Width between the Wool and the Cotton I would Double it before using to Secure.

Double Loop

I then proceeded to Sew the Leaf all the way around. I went over each part twice to Double the strength.

A few Leaves

After I had added the Pale Yellow Leaf, I added a few more of different colours.

Cast Off

I need to make some more Leaves so I decided to carry on Knitting for a few more Inches then Cast Off.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 30

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 30

A Tail of Two Stitches.

More Tails

The problem with this kind of Colour Change is it leaves dozens of Tails. Not only is this laborious but also does not give me much to blog about either.

 Flap Join

I have decided before I go out of my mind with boredom to shake it up a little bit. I have therefore left the Tails for a bit and moved on to the Flap Join.

Wool Secure

I get out a Leaf that I had Knitted earlier and begin to use the Wool Tail to Secure it. However, I do not have enough to go around the edge so I need to get some more Wool.

Crivens!

How this has happened I have no idea. I cannot find Wool of the same colour. I have the Bright Yellow and the Golden Yellow but not the same colour of the Leaf. I can only think that somehow that the Wool has faded or that I went completely Colour Blind when buying the last lot of Wool.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 29

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 29

Nice to be doing something different.

New Part

I am now moving on to one of the Side Pieces. What I am going to do is make a Flap

Adding Colours

I am continuing with the Colour Leaf Pattern. I simply add a few Colours at a time Knitting in Stocking Stitch.

Tail Mess

As I have done several inches, I am finding it hard to work out what is current and what are Tails. I need to sort out the Mess before I continue.

Tidy Time

I have now Sewn in all the Tails and now it is Tidy so I can continue on. I will have to do quite a bit more before I can move on to the next part.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 3

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 3

I have managed to do some more Knitting but with being ill it is slow process.

Bag 14 Inches

I have got the Bag to 14 Inches in Length. I think this should be long enough as I will be adding to the Top and the Bottom.

Brown Edge

Now I am Changing from Coloured Pattern to Plain Brown. This is for two reasons. Firstly I am going to Decrease and it will make it simpler with one Colour.

The second reason is more prosaic. This going to be the Bottom of the Bag and often be placed upon the floor. Therefore Plain Brown is less likely to show the Dirt.

90 Stitches

I have been slowly Decreasing the Stiches over a handful of Rows. I have now only 90 Stitches on the Needle. This means the Knitting will now go a lot faster.

Wrong Shape

I am a COMPLETE IDIOT! I was having a sneaking suspicion that something was wrong but couldn’t work it out. I therefore kept on Knitting in the hope that it would reveal itself.

Well it has. It was only when I had nearly got to the end of the Wool and Folded that it struck me. I had completely forgotten that I was making the Bag out of one piece NOT TWO.

This means it is entirely the Wrong Shape and will have to be Unpicked.

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 2

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 2

This project started badly and my luck hasn’t got any better!

Colour Problem

I have to be honest I have dropped a right Clanger. What I intended to do was Knit Plain Stitch around and around. For those that do not know this would give the same effect as Stocking Stitch.

The plan was great apart from one tiny detail. I had forgotten that I would be Changing Colours constantly. By Knitting in a Circle all the Tails would be at the wrong end.

Twisted Stitches

I therefore changed to Stocking Stitch. When I got to the end I noticed yet another Clanger. At one point I had dropped the Knitting and got it all Tangled.

I hadn’t noticed that when I started Knitting again that I had Twisted the Wool. Therefore I had created another Problem. After already Restarted once I was reluctant to do so again especially as this time I would have to undo all the Colours.

Time to Grow

Having Bit the Bullet I decided to deal with that particular Problem later with a bit of ingenious Sewing. I carried on Knitting until it got a bit longer. Then I needed to have a break before anything else went wrong.
