A nice short blog this week.

Tabs Together

 

Remember the Tabs I removed right at the beginning of the project. Well now I am going to Sew them together using a Blanket Stitch.

Glue Rear Panel

 

I Sewed 16 Tabs together. I then Glued the Rear of the Chaise Longue and placed them En bloc across the Lower Part.

Glue and Patch

 

I had quite a few Offcuts left so I decided to use the bigger pieces to Patch the Top.

Edge Bottom

 

I had some Long Strips of material that were from part of the Hem of the Curtains. These were ideal to use as Edging.

Rear Patched

I Sewed another couple of Tabs together this time End to End. This Covered a great deal of the scrappy Patching and made it look neater.

Not exactly a Maintenance Job more of an Alteration

Too Wide

This was the first Mask I ever made and I have never been entirely happy with it as it was too Wide and covered my Ears too much. In this blog I am going to turn this Smile the right way up again.

Pin Fold

 

I need to adjust the Mask. I can do this one of two ways. I can either Cut the Mask and Resew or I can try and Fold the material to bring it in.

I decided that it would be a lot of hassle Cutting the Material as I would have to not only Rehem it but also have to Unpick the Straps and Reattach those. Therefore I went with the second option.

Blanket Stitch Edge

 

I Folded the Mask Forward the same Width on Both sides. I then Pinned the Fold in place. I then Blanket Stitched the two Edges together.

Back View

I have now Blanket Stitched the Edges together. As you can see in the photograph above the Back View shows the Stitching but also the Open Fold.

In order to stop the Fold from flapping about I need to Secure it. I did this by Sewing across the Top of the Mask where the Strap is.

Thimble Through

Since I am going to have to go through several layers of material I needed to use my Thimble to get Through it. At times it was touch and go whether I would manage this without breaking the Needle.

Jolly Joker Jane

After a while not to mention some sore Fingers I now had a better fitting Mask. I present Jolly Joker Jane. Let’s see what kind of Mischief I can get in to.

We are now on to the last Legs of this project if you will forgive the pun.

Leg Material

 

I have a great deal of Material left from the Legs.

Leg Material Inverted

 

The above photograph shows the other Leg. I felt that it was easier to do this Upside Down hence the inverted look. (Please note that sometimes I reverse the order to make it more intelligible so photographs may show some discrepancies).

Pin Sides

 

To make life easier Pin the Sides of the Material together along the Length. Then you can get a more accurate cut across the Bottom.

This saves you from mucking about with part Sewing like I did.

Secure Fold

 

I turned the Material back to back and Secured the Fold at the Top of the Hem. Remember that I have inverted this so we are in fact working from the Bottom Hem of the Cooper Jeans.

Blanket Stitch

 

Once the Fold is Secured I can Blanket Stitch nearly to the Bottom on both sides. I left a couple of Inches Unsewn.

I can now Pin the Bottom Hem ready for Sewing.

Carrying on with this Concoction

Hem to Rip

 

After finishing the Bottom I can start on the sides. Not a task I am looking forward to. One side was reasonably easy to Hem. However I was slightly careless on the other side when cutting.

I have taken a piece out which I will need to sort. For the mean time I am just going to Hem up to that point.

Blanket Stitch to Rip

 

I have decided the best thing to do is to put the material back to back and Hem up to the Rip.

Pin Diagonally

 

I folded the Ripped side Diagonally and Hemmed. Once that was done I Pinned the other side to match. Then I could carry on Blanket Stitching to the Top

Glue Velcro

 

This time I have decided to have Velcro to Open and Close the Bag. I am sticking it on with Fabric Glue. I have Glued one side and stuck it down.

I am now going to Glue it on the Top of the Velcro then place the material firmly down on it.

Weigh Down

In order to hold it in place I have Weighed it down using my Iron until the Glue sets.

Secure Velcro

The final part is to Secure the Velcro. I do this by Stitching all the way around both parts of the Velcro.

I managed to keep the Covers in place whilst Pinning the Hem

Two Hemmed Lolly Covers

I now have Two finished Hemmed Lolly Covers.

Lolly Covers Pinned

I Blanket Stitched the Two Covers together. I went nearly all the way to the Bottom. However I stopped about an inch or so before the End.

This was for 2 reasons. One was to make sure that there was enough room to Slip off the Cover. The other reason was I was unsure of the length of the material I was putting on the Bottom.

The above photograph shows the length of Lolly Stick that I need to Cover with the Top Slip at full length.

Canvas Wrap Over

I Wrap the Canvas material over the Bottom of the Stick. I find I have enough to give good coverage.

The first thing that I needed to do was Hem the material all the way around.

After Hemming all the way around I double checked the material. I decided that on the Two Sides I would make a Double Hem. This is because this is where I would be adding the Press Studs.

I am continuing with making the Paws.

Paw Slip Original

After turning the Slip the correct way around. I place it on to the Leg.

Using a Blanket Stitch I Curve the Top Edges of the Paw Slip.

The above photograph shows the Curved Paw Slip on the Leg. As you can see there is still a bit of loose material. The Curved Edges look very pinched from this angle.

Small Stuffing

Since there is not much room for filling between the Slip and the Leg I have had to cut the Stuffing into very small pieces. Otherwise when filling there will be unsightly bulges.

Blanket Stitch Paw

I have Stuffed the Paw Slip and need to do more manipulation of the End. Since I do not want the Slip to move around whilst I am working on it I have to secure it.

Important

I Sew the Slip to the Leg using a Blanket Stitch. However prior to this I had to make sure that the Slip was in the right position on the leg. This was done by placing the Leg how it would be attached to the body. That would show the correct angle of the Paw. DO Not use the Seam of the Leg as a guide as I found it can twist quite badly whilst being stuffed.

Double Curve

 

Once the Slip is secured I could go back to the Curved End. Using the same Technique I Sewed the Curve again. I pulled the material tight and some of the Stitching was far nearer to the Centre of the Slip.

This was actually easier than I thought it would be. Now the Paw was Stuffed I had more to get hold of and the needle went through quite easily.
