Boxing Clever 2024 Part 9

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 9

Back to the Box Lid

Look Here

I left at the point where I was unhappy with the Red. Therefore I have had an Idea. I needed to add some Windows. However what I have decided to do is to add some White Shutters.

Mind the Door

I Glued the Shutters in place on top of the Red. It looks much better now. I have also added a door.

Pathway

Using White Ribbon and bits of Off Cuts I have created a Pathway. I toyed with the idea of adding a gate but decided that was going to make it look clumsy. Therefore I changed the gate to a Stile.

Starry Night

I really struggled to get the Sky right. I tried adding storm clouds but it didn’t look right and after asking for opinions I tried again. This time instead of a Full Moon I changed it to a Crescent

The addition of Stars was really hard work. No matter what I tried they looked terrible. I decided that there was no way I could make Stars out of Material. I had some tiny Sticky Coloured Glass. I trawled through to find White ones and dotted them around.

All Packed

Finally it was ready for me to put my Tarot and Oracle Cards in. I am really pleased with the over all result.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 8

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 8

I am getting there. Just a few bits to finish the back.

A Bit of Black

Okay you should now be able to to tell what it is supposed to be. I have added pieces of Black to make Ears, Legs and a Tail. I have also added some Strips of Green to as Grass.

Why the Long Face?

I have to confess that trying to Line Up the Face in the right place so it appears to be eating Grass was a real pain. Indeed I think I have had to Elongate the Material so it reaches it.

Wispy Sky

Thankfully the Sky was easy. I added a Band of Light Blue. I made the Wispy Clouds from the Offcuts from the Band Edge. I had to Curve the Ends slightly to give that Puffy effect.

Definitely Not Shaun

I have added to the Background by placing a couple of Hills. I have also extended the Marshy Ground.

I am short of the right Materials to add any more features to my Sheep. It seems more Forlorn than Shaun The Sheep. Not one of my best but it is on the Back.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 7

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 7

I am not sure why but I am in a bit of a silly mood and cannot get Television shows out of my Head. See if you can spot the references.

Barren Greenback

I have Covered the entire Back of the Box with Strips of Green Material. Hence the title Barren Greenback.

Bit of Blue

I am adding a Bit of Blue. This is going to be Water.

Build up Colours

I am steadily Building up the Bottom with a variety of off Cuts. You may recognise them from the Materials used on the Box Lid

Is it a Bird?

No it is not a Bird, a cloud or a superhero. Keep Guessing.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 6

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 6

Since I have to think about what I am going to do next on the Front I have decided to tackle some other bits in the meantime.

Mucky Side

I always hate the way the Glue dries when using this Material. It looks Mucky. Therefore I am going to start with the Side.

Green Side

This Side is Easy enough. I have taken a long piece of Green Material and Glued it in Place.

Peeling

It has started Peeling already. This Material isn’t very good which is why I only every use it as a Liner. Though I have to confess that using ordinary Glue instead of Fabric Glue probably doesn’t help.

Blue Band

I have a long Length of Dark Blue Band left. It can easily go all the way around the rest of the Sides. I start by Gluing it on one Side of the Box. It is a bit Uneven so I may have to add some more White.

Clip Away

Before I can do the Main Side I need to Clip a Hole in the White so I can access the Release Button.

Clip Band

I Glue to the Button. I then Clip the Band around the Button then carry on Gluing.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 5

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 5

Continuing with my Sea theme I have added a Lighthouse

Let there be Light

With all the Rocks about the Boat will need a Lighthouse. This is why I didn’t need to put the Sky all the way across. I have a Stone Coloured piece of Material nearly to the Top of the Box. I have put the

Beaming

There needed to be some Beams Shining into the dark. Some small bits of Ribbon were ideal for this.

Ready

I outlined the Lantern and then decided to add the characteristic Stripes with a Thick piece of Ribbon. I am not happy how the Glue has dried. I have to have a think

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 4

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 4

This is going to be more fiddly so need to take my time.

Adjust Edges

I have selected some Offcuts from the material left from a previous project. Sewing Bee Bag see links at bottom of the page. I am using my Pinking Scissors to Adjust the Edges so they do not Fray.

Split in Two

I want Thinner pieces of Cloth. I Split the Light and the Dark Blue into two Separate parts each by Cutting along the Middle with the Scissors.

Got the Blues

I Glue the Dark Blue across the Lid. I place the Lighter Blue roughly halfway up the Dark Blue. This is the start of a Wavy Sea.

Landslide

I continue layering the Blues alternatively until they reach the Sky. Once that part dried I added another piece of Camouflage over it. It has added a Sliding Slope to the Land.

Add Ship

Where the Sea meets the Sky I have added a couple of small pieces of Black Leather. This is the the Base and Mast of of a Boat in the Distance. I need to find a different Colour to make the Sail.

Add Rocks

I have found a nice piece of Red to make a Sail. I have also added a few Rocks. With some extra pieces of Blue I have added more Waves. It now looks like the Sea is rough with Waves crashing.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 3

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 3

Apologies. In the last blog I stated that I had Covered all the Sides except the one with the Button. Actually I had left the Lid of the Box as I thought it would be thick enough without another layer.

Pin Measure

Before I start adding Colour Cloth I Measure it and stick some Pins in to roughly Mark where I want to Cover to.

I start Gluing some Deep Blue Denim at the Top. This is going to represent the Sky.

Move Across

I Overlap the Cloth and Move down the Lid. I then add another piece to Move Across. I don’t need to put it all the way across as I have something else to go there.

Camouflage Bottom

I have a nice piece of Camouflage Cloth to Glue at the Bottom. This is the start of the Land.

Move Up

I have some small pieces of Cloth that I can use to Move Up towards the Sky. That is the good thing with my boyfriend being so tall I get so much Material out of his old Trousers.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 2

 Boxing Clever 2024 Part 2

One bit stuck down now on with the rest.

Around the Bend

I have down one Face of the Box. I am going to Wrap the Material Around the Bend and to the other side of the Box.

All Six Sides

With the big pieces done and dried I carried on with the small Edges. I now have all Six Sides finished.

Okay I am now having a panic attack. My mother reminded me that old Ironing Board’s used to use Asbestos and I have been merrily Cutting it up and got pieces everywhere.

I have done some research and as far as I can tell mine isn’t that old. However now I cannot stop thinking about it and have decided to give it an extra Cover.

Pile of Pieces

I have emptied my craft cupboard and have a huge Pile of Pieces to sort through. I am sure that I have something big enough to Cover the Box.

Black to Basics

I have found some Basic Black Material. I have measured it and have enough.

Good Spread

I give the White a Good Spread of Glue making sure it gets into all the Corner. I will Cover five Sides and leave the one with the Push Button. This is because I don’t want to make it to difficult to open by covering it with too much cloth.

Hate It

Grr I Hate it when it does this. I had forgotten how porous the Material was. It is a good job that this is just the springboard for the real Covering.

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 1

Boxing Clever 2024 Part 1

I have done a few things with boxes before but this time it is more elaborate.

Beat Up Box

I was given a Beat Up Box file. I decided to spruce it up.

Cover Info

It had previous Information written on the side of the Box. Since I couldn’t get it all off I thought it was best to use a Marker to Cover it.

Try for Size

I had saved the underside of an old Ironing board Cover. I thought I would wrap the Box in it to Try it for Size.

All Glued Up

Once I had measured and cut the Material to Size I placed the Box on it. I then proceeded to Cover one Face with Glue.

Facedown

Once it was Glued I placed the Box Facedown on to the Material. I pressed down firmly and waited for it to dry.

Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 2

 Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 2

Now I have my Safety Pins I can continue where I left off.

Pin Elastic

I select a Pin and taking one End of the Elastic I secure it. I haven’t Hemmed the Elastic at this point. This is because I am not sure if I have too much and need to Cut some Off.

Pull Through

I Pull Through the the Elastic using the Safety Pin. I have to make sure that the other End of the Elastic doesn’t come through. You cannot see it but the other End of the Tube is Scrunched up.

Hem Elastic

I can now Hem and Sew the Elastic Ends together. Since this can be fiddly use the Safety Pin to hold the Elastic together whilst Sewing.

Sew Width

This can be a bit tricky. I need to Sew the Tube Ends together along the Width. However I need to make sure that I do not sew completely through both sets of Material.

I Sewed little by little making sure that there was a Gap on the other side. When one part was complete I turned over and Sewed the rest.

Completed Scrunchie

I now have a Completed Scrunchie. I think I might have slightly too much Material so will have to take that into consideration next time. Of course the Thread needs to match better. I used this so I could see how I was doing. I could Unpick the Hemming .Thread if I want too at a later date, but I am satisfied for now. Oh and the most important thing is that it does work as I am wearing it now.

Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 1

 Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 1

Another go at making a Scrunchie.

18 Inches

Since this is basically another test I am not being too precious about Material that I am using. I am more interested in the Length which is 18 Inches.

Completely Hemmed

I have now Hemmed Completely around the Material. This will of course slightly shorten it. I really should have Pressed the Material first but I could not get to the Iron.

Fold Lengthways

I have Folded the Material Lengthways. I have Blanket Stitched along the open Length. This makes a Tube.

Elastic

Having got to my Iron I have now Pressed the Material. I have selected a piece of Elastic that is roughly the same Length as the Tube.

Many Pins

Naturally every Safety Pin in the house has disappeared so I have had to go shopping. Of course the two sizes that I use most are in different packs so I have ended up buying Many Pins.

Time for a cuppa before I sort this lot out.
