Crawling Creatures 2025 Part 9

Crawling Creatures 2025 Part 9

I am continuing on with making my Snail

Add Neck

I had called the lip on the Shell a Tail. That’s not entirely accurate. The Tail is actually a Base for adding a Neck.

Orange Segments

I take some more Orange Segments and then Roll them. There is another piece that is not show in the above photograph.

Add Antennas

I add a Pair of Antennas to the Top of the Neck.

Eyes

With some White Clay I add a couple of Eyes.

Snail Pupils

Next I add some Pupils.

Smiling Snail

Finally I add the third Orange Segment to make a Smile. There you have it one Smiling Snail.

Crawling Creatures 2025 Part 5

Crawling Creatures 2025 Part 5

I had made a mistake last time so I thought it better to have a break. Now I am ready to go again.

Redone

In order to cover up the mistake I have made the base of the Eyes slightly bigger.

Tiny Black

It is hard to tell from the above photograph but this is roughly the same size as the base. I will halve it and Roll it to make two Tiny Black Balls.

Add Pupils

I have placed the Black Balls on top of the White to make the Pupils. Now they really do look like Eyes

Super Tiny

The Crabs Eyes have Flecks of light in them. Therefore I need to make some Super Tiny sections.

Flawed

The Eyes look great. Unfortunately it is being Flawed by that bit of White on the Claw. I will need to fix that.

Smiles Ahoy

All sorted. I have turned it around and added a Smile.

Crawling Creatures 2025 Part 4

 Crawling Creatures 2025 Part 4

Need to continue with next part. Legs go. Get it?

Lift Legs

I have noticed that the Crab seems to be starting to Stick to the pan. I decided to Lift it to a new place before continuing.

Mould Legs

The Legs got a little damaged whilst Lifting so I have had to Mould them again.

White Ball

Change of Colour. I need to make a White Ball. Like before I will divide it in half.

Roll Eyes

Now I have two parts I have Rolled them into Small Balls. These will become the base for the Eyes.

Grr Wrong Place

Grr I dropped it on the Wrong Spot. I have taken it off but of course some residue has stuck fast.

Pig-Mailing On 2023 Part 4

Pig-Mailing On 2023 Part 4

Now I have got my I-Cords sorted I can move on to the Ears.

Ear We Go

I Sewed One End of the Cord to the Inside of the Ear. I carried on Sewing for about a Fingers Width.

Round Ears

I attached the other End of the Cord to the Outside of the Ear and Sewed for the same amount.

Pinch, Sew Together

I carefully carried on Sewing up both Sides until there was only a relatively small Loop left. I then Pinched the Loop together. I proceeded to Sew across.

Made a Pigs Ear

I repeated this process with the other Ear. This was much better at least they looked more Piggish. I then had to do the same with the other Slipper.

By Pinching and Sewing together I had not only made the Ears more Pointy but had also created Depth. This made the Ears more realistic.

Piggy Perfect

One final touch was to add some Googly Eyes. Pigs Eyes seem very small so I found some tiny ones. I Glued them on Top with some Fabric Glue.

Voila! Piggy Perfect. I hope he likes them.

More Face Masks 2020 Part 2 – Its Jaw dropping.

More Face Masks 2020 Part 2 – Its Jaw dropping.

In the last blog I had made a peculiar Shaped Face Mask. So what was I going to do with it?

Rough Drawing

First I drew a Rough Drawing on the Mask

Grey Felt

Next I selected some Grey Felt and Pinned it in Half.

Cut and Curve

I carefully cut a Curve at the Top and Bottom of the Felt. I then snipped a small Triangle out of the Centre then opened it up. I Trimmed the Centre and Edges until I had the shape outlined in the Rough Drawing.

Circular Red

I haven’t Sewn the Grey Felt as yet as I want to slip material underneath it. I started adding Red Felt to the Centre. I Sewed it on in a Circular Pattern. This was to give the impression of a Tube or in this case a Throat .

Add Teeth

I took three strips of White Felt and cut a zig-zag Pattern into them forming irregular shaped Triangular Teeth. I slipped these strips under the Grey Felt and Sewed in place.

Fins and Eyes

Once the Triangles were Sewn I then Sewed around all the Grey. I then added a slightly Curved Triangle to the Top forming a Fin. I added a Fin either side of what you probably now recognise as a Shark. I also Embroidered the Sharks Eyes.

Gills and White

After Embroidering the Black Eyes I added a touch of White as when Sharks attack their Eyes roll back. In addition to this I Sewed on some Gills either side.

Next I Sewed White Felt underneath the Grey Felt. This gave the characteristic colouring of the Great White Shark.

Press Stud

I hadn’t quite finished with my Shark. I Sewed a Press Stud In the Sharks Mouth.

Oxygen Tank

This was definitely the fiddliest and time consuming part of the Mask. I had to do some research to find the Iconic Oxygen Tank.

I cut out the Shape of the Tank and it took quite a few hours of Embroidery to give the semblance of the Logo. Due to the small size I had to omit the writing.

Be Afraid

Here I am wearing the Jaw (or should I say Jaws) dropping Mask. I felt it was well worth the effort I put into it.

Dionne’s Draught Excluder 2019 - Part 18

Dionne’s Draught Excluder 2019 - Part 18

Nearly there.

Sew through 3 Layers

I needed to attach the Head to the Body now it was in place. I decided to do the Bottom half first. I am using a Blanket Stitch as usual.

First of all I place the Body and Head on it’s Side. In order to make it secure I am passing the Needle through the Bottom Flap then through the Body and then Top Flap. I do this as far as I can on both Sides

Sew Head Flap

I then continue in Blanket Stitch Sewing the Bottom Flap to the Body. This joins the two Sides and now the whole of the Bottom Flap is Sewn and the Body cannot move.

Measure Velcro

To make sure I place the Ears in the correct position I have to have to add the legs. This will make it sit properly. Unfortunately I have lost the other half of my Velcro. Therefore I had to measure the half that I had already Sewn and cut two new pieces. Then I sewed the pieces to the Body.

Pin Ears

I move the Ears into different positions until I am satisfied. I then Pin both Ears in place to double check.

Pin Ear

The Pin is holding the Ear in place whilst I make a start. I keep switching between Sewing the Front of the Ear and the Back of the Ear.

This is because the Pin is only holding the Ear very loosely. After initially Sewing the Front and Back of the Ear to the Body I remove the Pin. I now can Sew the Ear more securely.

Sewn Ear

I have now Sewn one Ear in place. Then Sew the Front of the Head Flap to the Body as Far as the Ear. I then Sew the other Ear in place and do the same.

Two Bunny Ears

After Sewing the two Ears in place and the Front Flap to them I can continue across and Sew the rest of the Flap to the Body.

Easter Bunny

The final part is to add the Eyes. I have bought some Googly Eyes and I Glue them in place. I normally wipe down any gift I give however with the Corona Virus this time I am using Anti-Bacterial Wipes.

Bunny in Situe

After it is dried. I take to my friend and here it is in situe.

Mademoiselle Marionette 2018 Part 17

Mademoiselle Marionette 2018 Part 17

This blog will deal mainly with the Front Piece of the Top

Blue Binding

First of all I need to add some more Blue Binding to make the Top wider and longer whilst at the same time securing and tidying the edges of the Stripped material.

First Corner

In the picture above you can see in the Right Hand Corner I have Folded the Binding at an Angle to make a Slant. This is where the Top needs to bend in order to go underneath the Doll’s Arms.

In the Left Hand Corner of the picture you can see that I have laid the Needle also in a Diagonal direction. Take note of this because this is where I am going to Fold the Binding.

Diagonal Fold

I make the First Fold as shown. Unfortunately the next photograph did not come out. Press the Fold so it doesn’t try and spring back.

Next Fold the same bit of Binding so that part is Level with the rest of the Binding and the Length runs along the Bottom covering up the White Stitches. I suggest you try a couple of times then pin it so it doesn’t move whilst sewing.

Sew to 2nd Corner

Sew along the Bottom of the material but leave a good gap before you reach the end. This is where the next Fold will be.

Corner Loop

I suggest again that you try this Fold out a couple of times then Pin it in place before attempting to sew. It is slightly trickier and I never like this part myself.

It can be Folded in the same way as before but if I had done that the direction of the Fold would not be the same. It is easier to show than explain – see below.

Second Blue Added

This photograph was originally the other way up but I have rotated it so that it is easier to see how both Corners have the Folds in the same direction.

I then added another layer of Binding to widen. You might wonder why I didn’t just use a wider piece in the first place. The answer is simple. I haven’t the foggiest idea what I am doing!

I have never made a Doll before so am not used to having to sew around a 3D object. Therefore I am having to constantly put the item on and re-measure bit by bit. Oh and of course it does need to match.

Hook and Eyes

The final bit of this piece is to add the Hook and Eyes. I put the heaviest section which is the Hook on the stronger part which in this case is the Hem. The Eyes are sewn to a very flimsy Fold.

It is imperative that you make sure the Hook and Eyes match up before sewing in place otherwise the Top will bulge. I did the one nearest the Arm first. That way I knew how the material would go underneath.
