Mademoiselle Marionette’s Comfy Christmas 2019 Part 4

Mademoiselle Marionette’s Comfy Christmas 2019 Part 4

With the Pyjama Top finished I can now move onto the Bottoms.

Waistband

As always the problem with clothes for Mademoiselle is that they have to be able to put on without disrupting the String movement.

Since Pyjama Bottoms are often Elasticated I decided to use that as a basis. I Hemmed some material. I then added an Open Ended Hem and threaded through some Elastic creating a Waistband.

Waistband and Leg

I took a piece of material and wrapped around my thumb to give me an approximate size of the Marionettes Leg and then Hemmed it. I repeated this so I had two Leg pieces.

Legs with Press Studs

I then added a Press Stud on each end of the Material roughly in the middle of the Width edge. The tricky bit was now to add them in the right place on the Waistband Bottom.

I Pressed the Studs together on the Legs. I made sure that the Studs would open up on the outside of the Marionette’s Thigh when Sewn. I then flattened the Waistband and Pinned the Legs in place. I wanted to double check the position.

Complete Pyjama Set

Once satisfied I Sewed ONE SIDE of the Pyjama Legs onto the Back of the Waistband Bottoms. I repeated this with the other one and there we have it a Comfy Pyjama Set.

Mademoiselle Marionette’s Comfy Christmas 2019 Part 3

Mademoiselle Marionette’s Comfy Christmas 2019 Part 3

I now have the main Body and Shoulders of the Pyjama Top but I still have to add the Arms

4 Inch Arm

I cut two pieces of material and after Hemming the length was roughly 4 Inches in length. The width was approximately the same as the Shoulder overhang. See below.

Open Shoulders

I now opened the Shoulders back up so I could sew the Sleeves in place.

General Election Cock up

I frequently mention how distraction can lead to Errors. In this case it was watching the results come in. I inadvertently carried on Sewing after adding the Sleeve.

When I looked down I was Sewing down the Edge of the Sleeve. This meant that the Marionette would not be able to lift the Arm properly so I had to Unpick.

Sew On Sleeves

I now have both Sleeves attached. All that is need to finish the Pyjama Top is to close the Press Studs again.

A Tale of Two Masks 2020 Part 3

A Tale of Two Masks 2020 Part 3

This blog has been a little difficult to photograph and write due to the 3D. I hope that you will be able to follow it.

Finding Centre

The placing of the Pumpkin has to be precise. I therefore had to find the Centre not only of the Width of the Mask but also of the Height.

Sew Half

I then Sewed the Top Half of the Pumpkin in Place using a Backstitch. I had to do this little by little. I needed to make sure that the Robin wouldn’t over hang above or below when added.

Add Velcro

Next I had to add Velcro so the Top and Bottom of the Pumpkin would hold together when Folded.

Half and Half

I then added the Velcro to the Robin. I had to do this before Sewing the Robin in place. I did this at the far edge of the Velcro as I didn’t want the Stitching to catch when opening and closing it.

First I Sewed the Bottom of the Pumpkin the Top of the Robin back to back. Again I did this bit by bit to make sure that I wasn’t off Centre.

Once satisfied that it would Fold correctly I Sewed the Bottom of the Robin to the Mask.

Happy Halloween

After washing and pressing my Pumpkin is ready for Halloween

And Merry Christmas

After the Mask was dry I re-added the Eye that had come off – this time using a stronger glue. I will have to wash the Mask at low temperature to prevent it coming off again.

I tried the Mask on the other day and it was a huge success. I am therefore extremely happy with the end result.

A Tale of Two Masks 2020 Part 2

A Tale of Two Masks 2020 Part 2

Part 2 adds to the Colour of Blog.

White Background

I have my Black Hemmed Circle. I took some White Felt and Cut out a Circle slightly smaller than the first. I then Sewed it on top.

Adding Brown

The next part was harder. After scouring the internet for goodness how many hours I found the Image that I wanted. I now had to build up that Image in Felt.

I cut out the Body and Tail shapes in a suitable Brown Colour. I slightly overlapped them and then Sewed in Place.

Winging It

After the Tail and Body were in place I was the able to add the Wing.

Come on you Reds

Normally I would have just Coloured in a Red Circle if asked to draw a picture. However in studying the Image I found that it actually had considerable more Red required than you would think.

Yellow Peril

Time to add a Beak. This did not go well. The material I had was far too friable and in the end I had to give up.

Beak and Branch

I decided that it would be far easier just to Embroider the Beak onto the Circle. I then added another piece of Brown Felt as a Branch.

Orange Spot

This part was fiddly trying to get the Shape Cut and placed correctly.

Eyeing up the Leg

Here we have the finished item. I have Embroidered the leg and for a bit of fun decided to add a Googly Eye to my Red Breasted Robin.

A Tale of Two Masks 2020

A Tale of Two Masks 2020

This time I am trying something a little more complicated. I am going to try and make One Mask into Two

Lucky Circles

I was sorting through my bags for some Black material when lo and behold I found Two Circles already Cut out. That’s a Lucky start.

Match Hem

I Hemmed One Circle and proceeded to start the other. Now I do generally like to try and get things roughly equal but in this case I need to be more precise. Therefore I Pinned the Circles together so I could Match up the Hems correctly.

Orange

Next I needed to make an Orange Circle. For once I didn’t have any material handy so I have had to nip to the market to pick up some Orange Felt. I tried drawing a Circle in Chalk but it wouldn’t show up. Therefore I have used a Biro instead.

Orange Snip

Once I had my Orange Circle I Folded in Half and Pinned it. I Snipped a Triangle out of the Centre. This is going to be a Nose.

Eye Opener

I am having real trouble trying to get things equal. The Felt is a little thick and the Cutting isn’t getting through evenly. I had to do a lot of reshaping on the Mouth.

The Eyes are awkward to do because of not being central. I decided to Fold over the Top of the Circle so I could Snip there.

Yellow Backing

Sometimes I can be too frugal with my material. I wanted a Yellow Backing but every time I sewed I found that it was either too small or the Stitching showed through.

Yellow Circle

After several attempts I gave up and Cut out and Sewed a Large Yellow Circle.

Perfect Pumpkin

This is much better. The Yellow shows through correctly after I have placed the Orange on top. A pretty Perfect Pumpkin.
