Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 42

Autumn Cape Bag 2022 Part 42

Once again, I have to apologise. I am still having problems with photographs.

Sorting Loops

I had made eight Loops in Total. For the moment, I only need four. When I made the Loops, I only used a rough guide therefore; they are slightly different in size. I am now Sorting them into groups.

Adding Loop

I Add two of the Loops to the Strengthener. I am using Finger Spacing as a guide to separate them. These are the Outside Pair. I have Added them roughly an Inch away from the Edge.

All Looped Up

I now have Added the Inside Pair of Loops. They are two Finger Spaces from the Outside Loops. This means that the gap in the centre is not exact. If I feel that it is needed I can always add another Loop later.

Sewn Through

I was not particularly bother about which Brown Wool that I used to Sew the Loops in place. I merely used any bit of Wool Scraps that I had handy.

Obviously to make sure the Loops were Secured properly I have Sewn Through. This means that the Stitches will have to be Covered.

Clay-time Playtime 2021 Part 4

 Clay-time Playtime 2021 Part 4

Now the pot is made the fun bit can start.

Varnish Outside

I wanted to colour the pot but as I was intending it for the Bathroom I didn’t think watercolours would be a good idea in all the steam. Then I hit upon the idea of using Nail Varnish.

I had lots of half used Varnish so I found a nice Sand Coloured Yellow and began to Varnish the Outside

Dish Base

The Outside Varnish needed to dry so I turned it upside down. In doing so I realised that I would need to Varnish the Base of the Dish as well.

Bottom Varnish

I wasn’t sure which Varnish to use as I need the Yellow for a Second Coat on the Outside Edge. I decided to use a Clear Varnish as a kind of Undercoat.

Purple Swirl

After sorting through the various Bottles of Varnish I selected a Purple Shade and carefully Varnished a Thick Purple Swirl on the Base.

I had to wait for this to dry before doing a Second Coat so I very carefully added another Coat of Yellow to the Outside Edge.

Pink Bands

I wanted to add more detail to the Swirl so I picked a Pinkie-Gold Varnish and began to apply. I wanted to start small then make Thicker Bands. Unfortunately this proved more difficult than I anticipated.

In the end I had to keep do some Bands then and more Purple to try and even out the lines. Sometimes I added too much so then I had to wait for it to dry and then add more Pink.

Gold Edge

To add a nice Edge I selected a Gold Varnish and Coloured in between the Swirls. It was hard work but I am very pleased with the result.

Boxes Galore 2018 Part 1

Boxes Galore 2018 Part 1

I was given some Boxes as a present some time ago. They were made from wood and therefore in a natural state when I received them.

Natural Boxes

The Boxes have lids that have patterns cut into them or should that be patterns cut out?

Natural Boxes Lids Open

I wanted to decorate these Boxes so they could match in with my décor. However I have had so many other projects on the go I have not had a chance to make a start.

Choosing a Colour

Most of my décor is Green therefore that is the colour I chose. However since the kind of wood I normally paint are doors and skirting boards I needed a little assistance. Fortunately there is an art shop near me called Heaps.

Whenever I have an art query it is my first stop. The gentleman is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and pointed me to the correct type of paint to use. It is a water-based Acrylic and the shade is Sap Green

Boxes First Coat Inside

Since I had already opened the Boxes I decided to do the insides first. I used a medium sized brush and added a little water to the paint.

Boxes Painted Outside

Once I had painted the inside of the Boxes I then started to paint the outsides. I always paint with along the grain of the wood so it goes on smoothly. I also start at the top and work downwards in case it drips.

I haven’t as yet decided on what I am doing on the lids so I have left them natural. This is only the first coat so I will need to do more. However I cannot do anything until the first layer sinks in and dries.
