Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 15

Crikey Not Christmas 2022 Part 15

Well my hand has healed so I can get on with more crafting. This is just as well since this is blog 15 and I am beginning to think it will be Christmas by time I finish making this.

Trying to Place

I now have to try and work out where to Place the Ivy. This is easier said than done. I have to take into consideration both the Top and the Sides of the Wreath.

In addition to this I have to think where I am going to Place the Holly and the Ribbons.

Turn Ivy

After messing about adding and removing Ivy and Holly numerous times I decided to do a test.

Add Glue to Back

I turned the Ivy over and began to carefully add some Fabric Glue. I only wanted to put the Glue on the Upper most part of the Leaf.

Pin Low

I Placed the Ivy in line with the Pine Cone but leaving a Gap. I Pinned it just below where I had put the Glue. This is so I didn’t Glue the Pin too. If I did the Leaf would come away when I removed it.

Three Stuck

Once I was satisfied with the outcome of the first Placement I added another two Ivy Leaves. Again I Placed them underneath the Pine Cones.

This is going to be my basis for the rest of the Wreath additions.

Chaise Longue Chat 2021

 Chaise Longue Chat 2021

Sometimes you have to leave a project for a while in this case several years. I have posted the link for the last blog on this at the bottom.

Black Legs

Ill health has prevented me from doing really big jobs but I had a spot of energy and decided to crack on with a spot of maintenance whilst I was doing some Glossing.

I turned the Chaise Longue upside down and proceeded to Paint the Legs. Whilst doing this I made a discovery. I had some excess Material on the Base. This gave me an idea.

Cat Scratcher

My dear beloved Cat Electra had passed across the veil quite a few years ago. However evidence of her presence still remained. When she wasn’t using my leg she had decided that my Chaise Longue made a much better Cat Scratcher than the one she already had. Despite my best efforts the Legs and Front had become a Chat Chaise Longue.

Cut Material

I took a pair of Scissors and carefully Cut the Material. I didn’t want to Cut too close or I might end up having to repair the back to.

Partial Covering

I had the Material but unfortunately it wasn’t the correct Shape. Therefore I had to use a Patchwork system to try and cover as much as I could with as few Cuts as possible.

I decided the best way to Cover the damage was to Stick the Material on the area. I used Fabric Glue to place the Pieces on the Front. I sometimes had to manoeuvre these about around the Curves which is why I didn’t use Super Glue

Fully Covered

The above photograph shows the final result. It is not Purrfect by any means. It is however much better than it was before. It has also given me new confidence in trying to recover the entire Chaise Longue.

Renovating Box Seats 2017 Part 1

Renovating Box Seats 2017 Part 1

Sometime ago I found on the market what I shall term a Box Seat. I am not sure what the correct term is but it is like a mini Ottoman. I got this for the amazing price of £2 so I snapped it up quick.

The paint was flaky and the material ripped. So I gave it a good clean and sanded off the loose pieces and painted it over with black paint. I meant to come back to it sometime at a later date to do the reupholstering. Then lo and behold I found another one from the same place about 8 months later. It is slightly smaller and has different arms but I took it as a sign to get on with the rest of the work.

Box Seats Before

As you can see I have already rubbed down and repainted the smaller Box Seat. The next step was to remove the fabric.

First Layer

It wasn’t until I started removing the material on the smaller Box Seat I realised there was more than one layer of fabric.

Second Layer

Then I found another layer below the first.

Third Layer

Then after removing that I found the third and final layer which I have to say was horrible and bitty and came away in pieces.

Fortunately the larger Box Seat only had one layer of material and the padding so took a lot less time.

Larger Box Seat Pre-wiped

As you can see even with the padding removed it is pretty filthy. Before I could do anything I was going to have to do some cleaning.

Both Box Seats Wiped Down

I gave both Seats a good wipe down and tried to remove as much of the spare material as possible.

Large Box Seat With Excess Nails

Even though some nails came out whilst I was removing the fabric there were still quite a few left. There were also odd bits of material left attached to the lid. These would all need removing before I could do the next step.

Small Box Seat Lid

Argh! Whilst trying to remove some nails the lid came completely off. This was another job I could add to the list.

Repair Lid

I also needed to repair the raised part so it was flat against the rest of the wood.

Small Box Seat Nails

The above picture shows the Small Box Seat minus its lid. I have to remove all the excess nails from this before I can reattach the lid to it. You may also notice that there is paint missing at the back. When I have reattached the lid I am going to give both Boxes another good wipe down and another lick of paint.
