Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 2

 Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 2

Now I have my Safety Pins I can continue where I left off.

Pin Elastic

I select a Pin and taking one End of the Elastic I secure it. I haven’t Hemmed the Elastic at this point. This is because I am not sure if I have too much and need to Cut some Off.

Pull Through

I Pull Through the the Elastic using the Safety Pin. I have to make sure that the other End of the Elastic doesn’t come through. You cannot see it but the other End of the Tube is Scrunched up.

Hem Elastic

I can now Hem and Sew the Elastic Ends together. Since this can be fiddly use the Safety Pin to hold the Elastic together whilst Sewing.

Sew Width

This can be a bit tricky. I need to Sew the Tube Ends together along the Width. However I need to make sure that I do not sew completely through both sets of Material.

I Sewed little by little making sure that there was a Gap on the other side. When one part was complete I turned over and Sewed the rest.

Completed Scrunchie

I now have a Completed Scrunchie. I think I might have slightly too much Material so will have to take that into consideration next time. Of course the Thread needs to match better. I used this so I could see how I was doing. I could Unpick the Hemming .Thread if I want too at a later date, but I am satisfied for now. Oh and the most important thing is that it does work as I am wearing it now.

Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 1

 Start a Scrunchie 2024 Part 1

Another go at making a Scrunchie.

18 Inches

Since this is basically another test I am not being too precious about Material that I am using. I am more interested in the Length which is 18 Inches.

Completely Hemmed

I have now Hemmed Completely around the Material. This will of course slightly shorten it. I really should have Pressed the Material first but I could not get to the Iron.

Fold Lengthways

I have Folded the Material Lengthways. I have Blanket Stitched along the open Length. This makes a Tube.

Elastic

Having got to my Iron I have now Pressed the Material. I have selected a piece of Elastic that is roughly the same Length as the Tube.

Many Pins

Naturally every Safety Pin in the house has disappeared so I have had to go shopping. Of course the two sizes that I use most are in different packs so I have ended up buying Many Pins.

Time for a cuppa before I sort this lot out.

Test Trouble 2024 Part 3

Test Trouble 2024 Part 3

Time to deal with those pesky Holes.

Blanket Stitch

To Strengthen the Material where the Holes are I decided to Fold the Material Lengthways and Blanket-Stitch. That solved one problem but created another.

To make a Scrunchie I needed to create a Tube for the Elastic. However I realised that would mean Folding the Material Widthways and that would make it quite thin. It also meant that it would be thicker.

Button

I tried a couple of different Needles. The thin ones would break and the thick ones would make big Holes in the already damaged material. I had to have a rethink.

I decided to forget the Scrunchie idea and change to a Headband. I Sewed Buttons on where I could see Holes and where the Material was thin.

Hem Elastic

I was still going to need to use Elastic so I took a small piece and Hemmed both Ends.

Attach at Back

I took the Hemmed Elastic and placed it face down at the Back of the Material and Sewed in place.  I did the same with the other End.

Headband

Well the Scrunchie did not go as planned but at least now I have a funky new Headband to keep my hair out of my eyes.
